NTP Server Static GPS Antenna Systems

Posted by Wealth Group | 6:51 PM | 0 comments »

The Global positioning System (GPS) is often used by computer equipment, such as NTP Server systems, to provide an accurate timing reference for time critical applications. This article provides an overview of GPS for timing applications and describes the equipment used to install a GPS antenna in a static location.

Overview - Using GPS for Accurate Time

The Global Positioning System is a US military system for worldwide navigation. The system consists of 24 orbiting satellites, each satellite has a highly accurate atomic clock on-board synchronised to UTC time. The satellites continuously broadcast time and position information. The time and position information can be obtained worldwide with a GPS receiver and antenna. GPS works continuously in any whether conditions, anywhere in the world. Additionally, there is no set up fee or subscription charges to utilise the GPS systems. Many computer timing systems and NTP Server systems utilise GPS as an accurate external timing reference.

The Accuracy of GPS Timing Systems

GPS receivers provide highly accurate position and timing information. Typically, a GPS receiver can provide positioning information to an accuracy of 15m. NTP Server systems can obtain timing information from GPS to a resolution of a few nanoseconds.

The GPS Signal

The transmitted GPS signal is very weak low-power radio signal, designated L1 and L2. L1 is the civilian GPS frequency transmitted at 1575.42 MHz. The signals travel by line of sight and can pass through clouds, glass and plastics but are blocked by objects such as metal and brickwork. Therefore, the ideal location for a GPS antenna is on rooftop with a full 360-degree view of the sky. However, often installation on the side of a building or in a window can provide adequate results. As a rule of thumb, the better the view of the sky, the greater the likelihood of a good consistent signal lock.

GPS Timing Antenna Types

The GPS antenna acts as an amplifier to boost the GPS signal for transmission along a cable, usually coax, to the GPS receiver. GPS Timing antenna's provided with NTP server systems utilise a pole-mounting system. The antenna screws to a threaded pole for installation on rooftops. This arrangement provides the GPS antenna with a rigid mount easily able to withstand high winds without damage. Typically the GPS antenna is fairly small in size, measuring less than 90cm in diameter. Low-cost patch type antennas are also available, but these are generally better suited to vehicle applications.

GPS Antenna Cable Types and Cabling Distances

The cable distance that can be utilised by a GPS antenna depends mainly on the amplification of the GPS antenna and the quality of coax used in the installation. A typical GPS timing antenna may have a gain of 35 db. Relatively low-quality coax such as RG58 has an attenuation of 0.64 db/m at 1575 MHz. Therefore, a cable run of 55m can be obtained using RG58 cable. With very high quality coax cable, such as LMR400, an unaided cable run of 200m can be achieved. However, very high quality coax can be expensive. A good price-performance compromise is LMR200 cable, which can be run unaided to 80m.

Extending Cabling Distance with In-Line GPS Amplifiers

In-line GPS amplifiers provide further amplification of the GPS signal to increase the cable distance between the GPS antenna and receiver. GPS amplifiers are fitted in-line with the antenna cable and obtain power from the receiver via the coax cable. No external power-supplies are required. Typically, a GPS amplifier may add a further 20 dB of gain, adding 30m of low-quality RG58 coax, 40m of LMR200 coax or 100m of high quality LMR400 coax. Additionally, multiple in-line amplifiers may be utilised to further increase cable distance.

Sharing a Single Antenna Between Multiple Receivers - GPS Splitters

GPS splitters allow a single GPS antenna to be utilised by two or more NTP server systems. The GPS splitter splits the signal received from the GPS antenna into multiple outputs for synchronizing multiple NTP servers. GPS splitters are generally available with 2, 4 or 8 outputs.

Protecting GPS Systems - GPS Surge Suppressors

Surge suppressors protect expensive NTP server equipment from electro-static discharges, such as lightning, that may be picked up by an externally mounted GPS antenna. Surge suppressors are installed in-line on the coax cable between the antenna and receiver, ideally where the cable enters the building. Surge suppressors require a low-impedance ground, to discharge any received surge. The surge suppressor requires no power-supply or additional cabling.

Hot-Wired Navigating

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:51 AM | 0 comments »

My husband says I can lose my way within our campsite. Fair enough; navigation skills don't top my list of attributes. But since I live in the electronic renaissance, all I have to do is embrace a GPS device (Global Positioning Satellite Device) and I can hot-wire a path through any wilderness.

Ready to hoist your own digitally-triangulated sail and set sail into a new world? Whether you're a wilderness technophobe or a back country geek, the Nomadik team can get you bush-ready with a GPS device you can call your own.

GPS Device – Need To Know

Traditional compass users may balk at switching to a GPS device, but choosing one tailored to your needs will keep you tuned in and on track - literally.

• Custom Maps – Because not every trail is digitally converted, digital mapping software for your home PC is a smart investment. It can add $100 to the final sale, but it'll help you pre-map national parks, camp back-country and generally do everything possible to avoid the grid.

• Digitally compatible – On screen mapping capability may seduce you, but make sure it's compatible with your home PC. Being able to compare a printed map to the wireless information on your GPS device is great, but preplanning your trip by pre-marking waypoints and measuring distance could be a lifesaver (not to mention timesaver).

• Protection concerns – If repelling tops your list of activities, get a rubberized, cushioned case, but if thunderstorms are also a possibility look for a unit with an IPX7 rating – this ensures your unit can be submerged in 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. If you're heading to Alaska, find away to keep the batteries in your unit warm. Or get a map.

GPS devices can deliver you from disaster, but don't make the mistake of hopping from the car to the bush without some basic training. Digital mapping pinpoints your approximate location relative to permanent landmarks, but you'll likely have to input waypoints to find your way home. Obscure trails, topographical oddities (like logging trails or washouts) aren't picked up by satellite.

Room to Roam – Our Top 3 Picks

• Garmin Geko 101 – Equipped with a compass, stores 500 waypoints, calculates altitude and completely extinguishes all excuses for getting lost. We love that it's also waterproof and the lightest unit on the market.

• GPS watch – A powerful little unit that surpasses some twice its size. Track weather, use up to 12 channels, set alarms and even keep a training diary – all on your wrist. No, we're not kidding.

• Garmin E-Trex – Fits into the palm of your hand with all buttons on the side, so you truly can do it one-handed. Graphic icons, a track-back feature and up to 500 waypoints makes this a sweet tool.

Technology has brought about many ingenious devices. It drives on. The Personal Computer began limited programming tools that could do much, but required programming that wasn't available. That changed dramatically over a quarter of a century.

Along the way many wireless technologies such as Blue tooth came that make it even handier than ever; eliminating mounds of wires that made up computer systems all over. The GPS unit has done the same in respect to stacks of maps to spill coffee on and lose to water damage over time.

GPS and Blue tooth technologies have met, and life will never be the same! Blue tooth GPS features make the best of both worlds. On one side you have an interactive device that is highly specialized in being on the move. Maps, position, and even finding resources wherever you are among the benefits. It has storage limits and of course is specialized and compact.

While the PC has connected to many GPS units at some level, today without wires the interoperability has exploded in capability thanks to Blue tooth wireless technology.

What Makes The Blue tooth GPS Tick Usefully?

Blue tooth technology is a revolutionary medium for small-area networking. With a Blue tooth GPS data is passed to your computer via this wireless network without requiring your involvement. No longer do you have to figit with connectors that ultimately wear out where they screw in to put your latest travels in for use with your favorite programs. Just come in range of your Blue tooth network signal with your GPS and a number of advanced features occur automatically. It's just as easy to send data into your GPS as well.

It's wise to understand how the Blue tooth technology works, so you can understand configuration parameters that keep your information yours; though like any technology today there have been privacy considerations. Understanding is wise to be sure you authorize what goes where.

Getting Your Own Blue tooth GPS

New models of Blue tooth GPS are added monthly as old ones are pulled from the market. Popularity has made it move that fast. They range in features with price tags that move accordingly. When shopping for a Blue tooth GPS you should spend adequate time to become familiar with all the features and models; then decide what is best for your situation.

A great place to start is the manufacturer's websites. There you will see all of their latest offerings and usually with full details. You can also find many user experiences and reviews of the same on many sites. A great place to look for all of this is where you are now browsing. Have a look at all there is to offer and the links elsewhere that may even take you further.

In the end, probably your largest concern is whether a Blue tooth GPS will give you an advantage or sit in your closet. That probably should be the number one buying concern as they aren't the cheapest GPS you will find; though they offer time savings that you can spend more on your treks if you have a Blue tooth GPS.

Automobile navigation systems have been with us for a while now, and every year it seems that new features are bolted on to the various systems. All of them are based on GPS, or global positioning systems. Simply put, the device interacts with a satellite that establishes, with varying degrees of accuracy, exactly where you are. Depending on the system, it uses DVD for backup information or other software that has specific geographic information on it to determine your location, right down to the street corner.

There are a number of GPS systems that are sold as individual hand-held devices, and there are even some phones with the feature built in. But for automobiles, virtually every manufacturer now installs them as an option. Many of them are provided by major electronic manufacturers as OEM items.

A GPS position - that is, your spot on the planet - isn't much good unless the device that is providing that information can put it in a framework. That's where some of these systems are better than others, and where the breakdowns often occur. A typical automotive GPS will have a small dash-mounted screen that shows your position on a map. It's critical that whatever source is providing that map be up to date - perhaps the most common objection heard from drivers with GPS systems supported by CDs or DVDs.

Many of the systems today allow you to input your departure point and/or destination and will then provide you with driving instructions along the way. They will also provide you with information about gas stops and hotels along the route, along with information about points of interest across the country. Generally, the newer versions of this technology manage to stay up to date through downloads. One of the difficulties, however, can be a decision to detour. That may mean a major reprogramming headache and for many cars, the entire system may need to be turned off.

The General Motors OnStar system has been in operation for several years and has provided navigation assistance along with other remote features including contact with an OnStar employee in times of emergency. Their latest navigation methodology provides "turn-by-turn" instructions taking you through your course from departure to arrival.

In this case, the specifics on directions are downloaded from the OnStar service. A driver pushes the OnStar button, and then tells an OnStar operator where he or she is going. The appropriate directional information is downloaded in a matter of moments to your car's GPS device. The directions are displayed in text on the dashboard monitor, and there is also a voice prompting you to make the correct turns.

The problems? With this system, the OnStar operator needs to begin providing your programming with an address. So you'll need to know the street number of that Holiday Inn you're departing from. There are also occasions when the operator isn't going to find a site in the database, either because your information is incomplete or theirs is. If your plans change with the OnStar system, it will simply tell you that you've left the route until you once again contact the OnStar phone center and have them reroute your vehicle.

Pioneer Electronics has been among the principal providers on in-dash navigation systems and their new products will combine features of navigation, entertainment, and connectivity for maximum consumer appeal. Their navigation system has its route guidance information embedded in the unit and includes nearly 11 million points of interest, voice prompting and mapping. Their handheld version of this device includes entertainment features and wireless connectivity.

Using Waypoints On Your Next Fishing Trip

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:51 AM | 0 comments »

If you have a GPS device, then you already know the many advantages of this technology. If fishing is your hobby or if you know someone who is an avid fishermen, why not get them a GPS handheld unit as a holiday gift? They will find this device easy to use and a great way to track hot spots and map out new ones.

While there are many types of GPS units out there on the market today, you should look for one that will give you depth measurements and basic coordinates. This will be helpful when you are fishing before daybreak in unfamiliar waters. Other options such as a color screen, detailed maps, and database of restaurants, motels, and hospitals are also very useful. Depending on the types of fish you are looking for, knowing the depth of different parts of the lake will help you find more fish. For example, some types of trout like to hide at the bottom of the lake.

GPS technology can also be used when fishing in waters that contain old ships, building foundations, fallen trees, and other large objects. By writing down coordinates and water depth, you will have able to fish along the edges of these objects and not have to worry about getting your lure caught. There is nothing worse than trying to get your line free from a tree branch or root when it is under the water.

You will also be able to monitor the movement of fish that are lurking underneath the water. This will help you find hot spots every time. You will be able to distinguish movement in order to determine if a fish is present or if it is a log or tree branch.

Before you begin your fishing excursion, you should enter in the coordinates where you place your boat in the water as your first waypoint. Not only will this give a point of reference for future trips, it will also help you in case there is fog or a sudden rainstorm and you cannot find your way back to shore. Waypoints can also be used for hot spots that you find during the day. Going back to these spots will probably yield you more fish.

Most GPS units can hold up to one thousand way points. This means that you can take several fishing trips in different areas and not have to erase your collected data. Some fishermen will keep a log of their coordinates and the places they have fished so that they can refer to it easily on their next trip. Log your coordinates the next time you go on a fishing trip. You will be amazed by the number of fish you will catch.

Some people will map out these coordinates and use them each time they fish. You can do this or you can make a list of coordinates you have visited already so that you can find other hot spots and not repeat the same ones. With a GPS tracking device, you will not become a better fisherman, but you will have more control over your surroundings in terms of finding those places where fish like to hide.

A 2005 study indicates that the average employee wastes 2.09 hours per day of their employer's time. If you own a delivery company, service company or limo service, you don't have to speculate about employee down time if you install a non-intrusive GPS vehicle tracking system into your vehicles.

GPS tracking systems are electronic devices installed in vehicles to enable owners to track a vehicle's location. By using GPS modules, you can easily and accurately target vehicle locations. Specifically, these systems combine a communications component, such as cellular or satellite transmitters, to communicate the vehicle's location to a remote user. This information and/or location can then be viewed on electronic maps via the Internet or specialized software.

Corporations with large fleets of vehicles require a vehicle tracking system to determine where each vehicle is at any given time. Along with employee time accountability, vehicle tracking systems are often used for functions like routing, dispatch, onboard information and security. Other applications include monitoring driving behavior and managing mobile workforce overtime with scheduled updates as frequently as once per minute.

Keep Your Drivers Honest!

Ken Sink, owner of My Vehicle WatchDog, is a veteran with more than 20 years of transportation experience, including fleet management of over 800 vehicles. Regarding the benefits of GPS trackers, he said, "I believe employees should be trusted and treated as adults. But, if you've ever driven a rental vehicle differently than the car you own, then you understand how an employee may mistreat a company vehicle. Take the speeding employee, for example. Employees, who drive too fast waste your gasoline, wear out your vehicle prematurely and sooner or later, drive up your insurance rates. A GPS vehicle tracking system can alert you when someone exceeds your pre-set speed limit. It's your vehicle, your fuel and your insurance premium; a tracking system helps you regain control of them."

Are your vehicles being used after hours or on the weekends? Is an employee using your vehicle to moonlight? Are your vehicles being used for personal errands? You'll know with certainty if you install a GPS vehicle tracking device in your vehicles.

How do you currently verify overtime claims? Maybe you can verify the work was done, but when? With a GPS tracking system, you can verify when the work was done by cross-checking a vehicle's location with the time of day it was there.

One of the primary benefits of GPS vehicle tracking systems is that you'll never have to make another phone call to find out where your employees are—you can simply look on the map displayed on your computer screen. Also, your GPS tracking system will remind you when it's time to rotate tires, change oil or perform other scheduled maintenance on the vehicles in your fleet. And, many insurance companies offer discounts of up to 30% for vehicles protected with GPS tracking systems.

Tracking your employees in the field has never been easier--GPS tracking is a reliable and affordable way to drastically cut overtime costs. Once implemented, you'll quickly realize the value of keeping GPS vehicle tracking as an integral part of your business operations. After all: time is money—your money.

Find Yourself With Your Cell Phone

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:51 AM | 0 comments »

A few years ago, the FCC mandated that cell phones have GPS capacity or some form of location mechanism so that the phone and its operator could be located in the case of a 911 call. The law took effect at the beginning of 2005. Today, over one hundred million cell phones in this country have a chip that provides GPS capacity and increasingly, software services are emerging that put them to use.

GPS stands for Global Positioning Software and it simply means that an equipped device can be located by the satellites overhead in geosynchronous orbit that are built to pick up GPS signals. While the cell phone companies initially were reluctant to participate, they have begun to develop subscription services that provide software to help you use the tracking system.

The GPS technology without bells and whistles simply pinpoints the location of your cell phone. A techie named Chuck Fletcher developed a freeware program called Mologogo that allows one Mologogo equipped phone to locate other, similarly equipped phones. It's become a method for a few thousand cell owners to keep track of each other, but hasn't moved much beyond that.

Verizon and Sprint have developed subscription services that will allow your phone to pinpoint your location, complete with overhead map. It's a mobile driving assistance tool that should enjoy some degree of popularity. The cell phone companies have been reticent to provide general access to the GPS feature in their phones, because it can be a sensitive privacy issue - especially if you're somewhere you're not supposed to be.

More to the point, however, is the fact that the cell operators see the GPS technology as a potential profit center. One way to get driving directions with a GPS cell phone is to subscribe to a GPS navigation service. Nextel offers two: Televigation's TeleNav and Motorola's ViaMoto. Using the GPS and Nextel's network, TeleNav and ViaMoto can send driving directions to a Nextel phone. If you make a wrong turn or miss a street, the service detects that you're off the route and new route is calculated to put you back on track.

Aside from the basic mapping and location support, if you're a Sprint-Nextel customer you can subscribe to a service called Smarter Agent. This GPS supported technology is tied to a real estate database and can provide you with information on home sales in the neighborhood where you and your cell phone happen to be located. It will identify which homes have sold in the neighborhood in the last few years, and for what price.

Verizon has a service called getGOING. You can download applications such as AtlasBook Places. With AtlasBook Places you can get maps and directions and navigate to nearby places. An option is a web-based planning tool. These functions are available on selected Verizon phones.

There's an inherent privacy issue here that is a challenge for the major cell providers. Sprint-Nextel is the only company that has always allowed access to the GPS chips in its handsets. They have a strict privacy agreement with any third party service providers such as Smart Agent. If you download software that is not provided through Nextel, however, you have no such guarantee of privacy. This issue, aside from dollar signs, is what has kept GPS functionality largely an in-house development of the cell phone companies.

Walker's Gadgets - How Useful Are They?

Posted by Wealth Group | 2:51 AM | 0 comments »

Altitude meters

Wrist worn devices for walkers are becoming more widely available as prices drop. A popular one is the altitude meter. This can be quite helpful when navigating in difficult mountain terrain - or can it? First of all, it has to be set at the start of the walk, if you forget, then you you have only an approximation of your height gain. Because of the size of the altimeter, it is not 100% accurate anyway, even if the reading is within 1% of the actual pressure, for a 3000 foot increase in height you could be up to 30m above or below the height indicated on the device, so again, you only really have an approximation. These devices work on the assumption that atmospheric pressure has not changed during the day, that is not necessarily the case so again, you cannot be certain of your height. So, do not rely solely on your altimeter, read your map and your surroundings and that will keep you on track! Conclusion - a great toy to have if you can spare the cash, but bear in mind the shortcomings.

Barometers

Wouldn't it be great to have a portable weather station on your wrist, you could then tell what the weather was about to do and make informed judgements on your walks. Lets face it, most people can do that anyway, without needing to take a reading of the air pressure and always remember that mountain or hill weather can change dramatically in short time periods. The disadvantages are that barometers are set for a specific temperature, at temperatures other than that, it will be inaccurate. Air pressure decreases with height so you have to subtract 34mb/hPa for each height gain of 1000 feet (Ah, at last, a use for the altimeter!) and finally, weather is never as predictable as you might hope, it is not unknown for there to be rain and cloud in a high pressure system. Conclusion - another great toy to help you to keep up with (or get ahead of) the Joneses.

Technical notes - High pressure is caused by cool air masses sinking and therefore warming. Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air so clouds do not form that is why high pressure regions give fair weather. The opposite is true of low pressure areas. So, where the pressure is changing, up means good weather and down means it is deteriorating.

GPS

Great for those of you who never really got to grips with map reading - it can enable you to go to places that you would never have dreamed of going if you needed to rely on a map. The downside is that they are not yet indestructible, so make sure you take a map, at least that won't break down.

Step counter

For serious map-based navigation, you need to know how far you have travelled. The usual way is to know the length of your stride and use this to measure out 100m or 50 m or whatever distances. The step counter that I am thinking of is hand operated, click it after the right number of steps and you have a double check on your mental counting. They are a great way to avoid critical errors, although there are alternatives, for example tie knots in a thin cord, tie the cord to your rucksack and for each 50 or 100m etc push another knot through the strap - if you lose count, just check how many knots you have pushed through your strap. Cheaper too!

I was checking out a friend's new car a couple weeks ago when I noticed that he had one of those cool auto navigation systems in it. I had seen those things in rental cars before, but hadn't actually known of anyone that had one. I asked him to take me out for a ride so I could see how it worked. Since he wanted to show off his new wheels anyway, he quickly agreed.

I kept my eyes on the auto navigation system the entire time we were on the road. My friend excitedly explained how the thing worked. Apparently, he had purchased a top of the line GPS auto navigation system that tracked the car's position using satellite. I watched the map closely, and sure enough, it was as correct as could be.

I mean, we would pass a landmark out on the side of the road while the on screen map was showing the exact same thing. I asked my friend how easy it was to find new locations using these auto navigation systems. He said all he had to do was type in an address or phone number using the touch screen menu, and the shortest route would appear within seconds.

I decided there and then that I had to check out some auto navigation systems for my own car. When I got home, I immediately logged onto the Internet to do a bit of research. I still didn't know very much about these devices, so I wanted to read a few auto navigation system reviews before spending my money. I wanted to know which brands packed the most features into each unit, which brands had the best prices, and which brands had the most favorable consumer reviews. I was able to find all of this information quickly and easily, which made shopping for an auto navigation system as peacefully as I could have hoped.

After I was satisfied that I knew enough about auto navigation systems to make an informed decision, I went ahead with my purchase. I was even able to find a website that specializes in selling auto navigation systems for much less than the retail price. I got a fantastic deal on the model I wanted, and ended up saving hundreds of dollars.

I've only had my auto navigation system installed for a short time, but it's already helped me out quite a bit. I've been able to avoid traffic, find shorter routes to the places I visit regularly, and save me money by alerting me to alternative exits when I'm driving on tollways. All in all, I can't imagine ever driving without one of these auto navigation systems to guide me when I'm out on the road.

Wearing contact lenses is such a pleasant and comfortable experience that only a few of us want to hear any bad news about any serious side affects of using the contacts over an extended period of time. For the most part, wearing contacts is virtually harmless. But if you have been careless about cleaning and disinfecting your lenses, it's high time you pay attention to it because protein deposits on the contacts can cause Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPS).

GPS is an allergic reaction to either the chemical of the contact lens or the cleaning solution used. So, not only should you clean and disinfect regularly but should also be careful about the kind of solution being used to clean your lens. Those who are thinking of going for contacts must make sure that the material of which the lenses are made suits them.

Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis causes white lumps or giant papillae on the inside of the upper eyelids, and may cause extensive scarring barring you from using the contacts any further. Changing the contacts or the solution, whichever is the guilty party, may bring some relief, but you'll still need to stop wearing your lenses. In such cases, the best way is to find out if you are fit for LASIK, and if you are, go for it.

However, it is not to say that a person affected by GPC is prohibited from wearing contacts for life, but certain precautions have to be taken to avoid recurrence. Contacts with low water content work for limited use coupled with strict lens hygiene. One may also consider switching to the gas permeable variety, which lessens the chances of the GPC. There are a few stabilizing agents that may also be helpful in checking inflammation.

GPC is definitely a serious affliction and may create some very real problems for the contacts users. Prevention is the best cure in this case, too. It is important that you clean and disinfect the lens properly besides changing it frequently because protein deposits can be cleaned only to a certain extent, which means the more often you change your lenses, the lesser the chances of your suffering from the GPC. So, just be a little careful and the contacts will stay with you for life without trouble.

There are some great fishfinders available today. Do you fish from a boat, it is much more enjoyable if you have a good fish radar.

you know what it is like to go fishing for an entire day and come home fishless. You spend all that hard earned pay on your gear, head out on the lake find your place and pray there are fish around. Then after hours of nothing, you head home after a great day of floating around getting burned up by the sun and casting all day. It is still great fun, but a fish finder puts an end to all the futility.

With a fish finder, you can be catching fish minutes after finding your fishing spot.

When you start up your fishfinder at sea, you will notice that the display is rather simple to interpret. The bottom of the display will show the layout of the bottom of the body of water under your boat, in monochrome or as with some of the newest models crisp high resolution color. Some even have a 3D display that can display a nice cross section of the sea floor. You will learn to differentiate objects and ground clutter on the bottom. Then there are interesting little arch's moving around in the view. Those are our targets the fish.

The different manufacturers produce different firmware that runs the fish finder. This results in the display looking a little different, because of the sonar interpretation among the manufacturers, but they all perform basically the same function. Fish Finder manufacturers work long and hard trying to improve the receiver and sonar technology with every new product that is released. Some fish finders can analyze the arch of a fish and show an estimation of the size of the fish with a neat little digital image of a fish and its estimated size with a numerical value.

Let's talk about adding GPS to the fish sonar. GPS has made the allure of the fish finder even greater by providing the full range of functions of a typical GPS unit. You can mark way points, plot courses and remember the precise location of your favorite fishing holes, so you can return to that very spot at a later time.

Origins of The Global Positioning System

Global Positioning System Navigation - How it all got started

Ever since man first started to roam the earth he has been trying to find ways to navigate his way. Throughout time man has made many improvements in the way he navigates his way around the world, and even door to door. Sailors used to use the sun and the stars to navigate by. The biggest problem with that, is that they would have several days of cloudy weather and not be able to take sightings of the sun or the stars.

How man began to find his way

From the cave man to present day, man has always been in search of ways to navigate his way. The cave man used to use sticks, stones and other methods to mark the path they had taken, so that others may follow or that they could find their way back. As time went on and man evolved, hieroglyphics were used to describe the route to take. That still did not solve the problem of navigating to a new destination. Man eventually invented the Sexton that relied up being able to take a sighting from the stars or the sun. This was a brilliant idea, there was only one problem that was insurmountable. The weather, when it became cloudy for several days a sighting from the stars or sun became impossible to take. When this would happen, man would just have to do what they called Dead Reckoning, which in essence means that it was their best guess. This meant that whether they were walking or sailing, that when they were able to get a celestial sighting that they would end up having to make course corrections, which added miles and time to their trip.

The Beginning of Radio Navigation

The origins of radio navigation started in the 1920's. During the early part of WWII a two dimensional ( latitude and longitude ) radio navigation system was developed by MIT Radiation Laboratory that was known as LORAN. It used time - difference -of arrival of radio signals and was the first real all weather position finding system. In 1959 the US Military launched the first satellite-based system known as TRANSIT and was meant to support US Navy submarine fleet. The TRANSIT system used seven low orbiting satellites in polar orbits. In 1967 TRANSIT was opened up for the use in civilian application. It proved very useful for slow-moving platforms such as ships but was to slow for faster moving platforms such as airplanes. Although it could not be used by faster moving platforms, it started to lay the ground work for the 3 - dimensional systems (latitude, longitude, altitude ) that are in use today known as GPS or Global Positioning System.

As time has went on there have been many developments in navigation of the earth. With today's Global Positioning System or GPS there are no limits to your exploration and added safety. No matter whether you driving and trying to navigate to your destination, at a job site as a surveyor or contractor, or your in the backwoods hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, site seeing or camping, you are sure to find a GPS unit to fulfill all of your navigation needs. With today's technology there is no longer any reason to be lost.

To find more information visit

Traveling is always easier if you take as little with you as humanly possible. It's always the intention while traveling to carry only to what is most necessary. This is not always an obtainable goal, especially when you are venturing into parts unknown. In addition to the usual essentials, a sizable map and navigational equipment become necessary.

With the unveiling of GPS technology, traveling with maps and huge navigational devices becomes unneeded; a traveler need only carry a GPS receiver. A GPS receiver determines one's exact position on earth by deciphering the information it receives from GPS satellites. With the assistance of other electronic devices, the GPS receiver will precisely determine your correct location on a map.

For even more even more functions and ease of use, GPS receivers can be used with other mobile devices. The PDA is one of the most frequently used mobile products for this purpose. PDAs make the perfect partner to the GPS receiver because of their unique features, such as a colored screen to display maps and hard drive space for map storage. And PDAs are light compared to other mobile devices such as notebook computers.

There is a problem with using a PDA with a GPS device, however. They do not always integrate well. GPS receivers are normally connected to PDAs using a CompactFlash (CF) card or USB wires. Because some GPS receivers are quite large, attaching it to your PDA using CF can make it too large. Using the USB wires, however, can make your GPS receiver difficult to use and limit its usefulness.

So what could be the solution to this problem? A Bluetooth GPS reciver.

The Bluetooth Solution

Bluetooth wireless technology is the open standard for wireless communication. As long as the two electronic devices are with 10 meters of each other, Bluetooth technology will allow them to send and receive signals and transfer data. No wires are necessary.

Bluetooth GPS Recevier

The Bluetooth GPS receiver is simply a receiver that uses the Bluetooth technology and electronics to transmit GPS data to a mobile device. However, they must share the same technology. For example, if a Bluetooth GPS receiver will be used with a PDA, the PDA must have built-in Bluetooth technology.

The Bluetooth GPS receivers used with the Bluetooth capable PDAs offer many advantages over an ordinary GPS unit, which is connected to the PDA using CompactFlash or USB wires. These advantages include the ability to use wireless connections between the devices. Without wires to limit positioning between the Bluetooth GPS receiver and the PDA, you can place the two devices at their most advantageous locations. For example, if you are using your Bluetooth GPS receiver in your car, you can place the device where it has a clear view of the sky. Then you can place your PDA on your dashboard and have optimum screen visibility. Because the wires are not used to connect the two devices, their positioning will not hamper your driving. Also, because you won't need to use Bluetooth's CompactFlash slot, you can use it for other things, such as storing maps or software to optimize the GPS navigation.

Aside from these two advantages, the Bluetooth GPS receiver units have other features, although most of them are brand or unit specific. Generally, Bluetooth GPS receiver units now have pre-stored US maps, point-of-interest (POI databases and route recalculation functions.

Paper road maps are quickly being replaced by auto GPS devices as a long distance traveler's mandatory tool. Since GPS technology has been transformed from a purely military use and been made available to almost everybody, more and more vehicle navigators have been introduced.

There are essentially two types of GPS gear for automobiles, the favorite variety being the bigger and usually fixed (not portable) ones. Some tag this particular type of electronic guide as the "true car" navigator as it is more exact and easy to use than its other counterpart. It has an adequately-sized screen that can be easily viewed even at an arms length. It also has a voice guidance feature which prompts the driver where to turn or notifies him if a designated point of interest is already near.

The second type of car GPS generally covers the smaller, more portable ones. They also have the same functions and features as their bigger counterparts. However, handheld automobile global positioning system devices are not very easy to use. Its small screen makes it difficult for drivers to immediately consult it without having to stop and look at the details displayed on LCD. While some can manage to drive and look at it at the same time, studies have shown that this could be perilous.

Vehicle GPS devices can be an indispensable tool for those who frequently travel by land to new towns or cities. It could spare them from taking occasional stops in order to ask for directions. While traditional road map design has certainly improved over the years, it cannot provide real time prompts or updates like their electronic versions.

Car GPS units are not just for the topographically illiterate. Knowing the main roads and passageways are usually fairly easy to memorize, however traffic and road closures are impossible to predict. Since GPS devices are regularly being updated by the satellites on weather and road conditions, drivers will be efficiently advised as to what roads to take in order to pass up heavy traffic.

The Characteristics of Antique Cars

Posted by Wealth Group | 2:51 AM | 0 comments »

There are some people that believe antique cars should no longer be driven on our open roads. The reason they think this way is because these old vehicles are considered relics of the past that just cannot match the larger and efficient vehicles on the market today.

On the contrary, there are a lot of vintage collectors of these roadsters. People do this as a hobby or to hopefully get a return of investment later when the market value of these cars go up again.

A car is considered an antique if it is already 25 years old. There are not that many modern vehicles that are able to survive this long which makes the early models very unique. In fact, the price of these rare machines goes up because of the historical value each of these have.

There are those who believe that the term antiquated should only be given to machines that were made prior to the Second World War. These machines served as the pioneers of today's vehicles since the technology back then paved the way for power steering, safety belts and other features that are required in all automobiles.

Are antique cars simple to preserve? The response is no. This is due to car manufacturers no longer assembling these vehicles and the parts making these both difficult to locate and costly.

Can the antique car be used daily? This really depends on the condition of the engine and since these are quite old, there is a possibility that these could breakdown. The brakes on the vehicle can also be a problem so checks must be done regularly.

Will it be a good idea to get insurance for the car? The answer is yes. These machines are rare and are not equipped with an alarm system which makes it easy for anyone to hot wire and drive off.

Where can a person buy an antique car? These vehicles can be purchased in a dealership. There are just a few around so the seeker can also try searching in the Internet and in the classified ads of the paper and automobile magazines.

Those who do not understand that much about cars ought to be accompanied by a knowledgeable mechanic. A trained technician should be qualified to look over the inside of the automobile and decide if it is in fact worth buying at that cost. The individual should also take the automobile for a test drive to get the experience of remaining behind the wheel.

Can the antique car be assembled by a person? The answer is yes. In fact, there are some associations who do this as a hobby and help the members find the missing parts in order to finish the vehicle. This can only be done if the individual is a skilled mechanic who knows everything about the car.

Will the person make a lot of profit assembling and selling the antique car? The response is no. In reality, more money is used up putting the entire vehicle together than finding somebody to buy it.

There are numerous antique cars to choose from. The person should look around and check if there is a model that is worth bringing home.

Antique cars represent a moment in history where traffic did not exist and people can take a trip on the country road. By doing some research and saving some money, the individual will be able to buy that dreamed roadster.

Choosing The Best PDA GPS For Your Needs

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:51 AM | 0 comments »

Personal Digital Assistants or PDAs are truly useful devices, they are hand held devices which remind you of appointments, store your business and personal records and can even double as a phone. By putting a GPS system on your PDA it can even give you direction and location information.

Just How Accurate Do You Have To Be?

Before investing in a GPS system for your PDA, ask how accurately it should operate. All units use data from the GPS satellite network, but the accuracy of the information relies on the PDA clock hardware.

The satellites are fitted with expensive atomic clocks which have great precision. PDA GPS units have less accurate clocks. Unless you have to know your position with detailed accuracy, say around 12 inches, you can choose a PDA GPS unit with the less expensive time piece and still find it extremely useful.

The GPS device transmits signals to the GPS satellite network, transmitting a timestamp, and the available satellites compare that with the timestamp from the signal which was previously received. The satellite then figures in how long it took to receive the signal, comparing this time calculation and the relative location of the other satellites. This is how it triangulates your earth based position. Information from a minimum of three satellites is required to collate all of the information required to advise your location. Another satellite adds enough accuracy to calculate altitude.

How Will You Use Your GPS?

Decide how you need to use a PDA GPS and get the features you need.

GPS systems designed to be used while driving a car, come with spoken instructions advising which direction to turn, how far from destination and other pertinent information. The safety aspects of spoken instructions rather than glancing at a device continually are obvious.

If you only need a guide while walking about, the less expensive and advanced alternatives may be suitable.

Generally, a the most advanced PDA GPS systems come equipped with maps which continually update your location on a updating map, also giving verbal instructions such when and where to turn next. Less pricey options let you transfer non updating maps via your PC or Mac and compare your position relative to your destination.

Global Positioning System (GPS)

Posted by Wealth Group | 6:51 PM | 0 comments »

Global Positioning System (GPS)

Originally designated the NAVSTAR (Navigation System with Timing And Ranging) Global Positioning System, (GPS) was developed by the US Department of Defense to provide all-weather round-the-clock navigation capabilities for military ground, sea, and air forces. Since its implementation, the GPS system has also become an integral asset in numerous civilian applications and industries around the globe, including recreational uses (e.g. boating, aircraft, hiking), corporate vehicle fleet tracking, and surveying.

The GPS system employs 24 spacecraft in 20,200 km circular orbits inclined at 55 degrees. These spacecraft are placed in 6 orbit planes with four operational satellites in each plane. All launches have been successful except for one launch failure in 1981. The full 24-satellite constellation was completed on March 9, 1994.

The first eleven spacecraft (GPS Block 1) were used to demonstrate the feasibility of the GPS system. The orbit inclination used for these satellites was 63 degrees, differing from the 55 degrees used for the operational system. The Block 2 spacecraft began the operational system. The Block 2A spacecraft (A = Advanced) were a slight improvement over the Block 2.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was designed as a dual-use system with the primary purpose of enhancing the effectiveness of U.S. and allied military forces. GPS is rapidly becoming an integral component of the emerging Global Information Infrastructure, with applications ranging from mapping and surveying to international air traffic management and global change research. The growing demand from military, civil, commercial, and scientific users has generated a U.S. commercial GPS navigation systems equipment and service industry that leads the world. Augmentations to enhance basic GPS services could further expand these civil and commercial markets.

GPS systems receivers use triangulation of the GPS satellites' navigational signals to determine their location. The satellites provide two different signals that provide different accuracies. Coarse-acquisition (C/A) code is intended for civilian use, and is deliberately degraded. The accuracy using a typical civilian GPS receiver with C/A code is typically about 100 meters. The military's Precision (P) code is not corrupted, and provides positional accuracy to within approximately 20 meters. Numerous on-line tutorials on how GPS works and its applications are available, including those at the University of Texas and Rentec International. GPS systems satellites are controlled at the GPS Master Control Station (MCS) located at Falcon Air Force Base outside Colorado Springs, Colorado. The ground segment also includes four active-tracking ground antennas and five passive-tracking monitor stations.

GPS receiver technology has developed by leaps and bounds over the last few years. GPS receivers were initially the size of a suitcase with the antenna the size of a kid's blow up swimming pool. Over time, the system has been developed into a civilian friendly program, and GPS receiver technology has miniaturized as well. Automobile GPS receivers are the size of a deck of cards. The gps receiver used in hand held devices is not much larger than a small cell phone. Many newer cell telephones have a GPS receiver integral in their hand set. As manufacturers develop the GPS receiver, they will have to work through display, power use and dexterity limitations. An individual will need a screen with a size that can be viewed from any angle and at a reasonable distance. The GPS receiver is generally always on while in use, so managing power will continue to be an on going problem. The ability to push the small buttons will limit just how small a GPS receiver can be. As touch screens develop and other input systems are introduced, we will see the GPS receiver continue to change in appearance and use.

Tips You Can Use To Auto Gps System

Posted by Wealth Group | 2:51 AM | 0 comments »

After reading our article, you can impress your friends with the amazing amount of knowledge you have gained on this subject.

Imagine the next time you write a discussion about auto gps system. When you father sharing the fascinating auto gps system facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigational aid originally urbanized for the military. The system simply receives signals. It is the practical technology that gives the GPS its versatility.

If you have ever worn map and compass, you will understand a little about how the GPS works. In order to find your standing on a map, you necessary to have three points of reference. The intersecting line from the location points is where you are. Map and matter work uses triangulation (bearings), GPS uses trilateration (distances) to ascertain location. Satellites orbiting the earth emit matchless signals that can be usual by a GPS. The GPS software interprets the signal, identifying the satellite that it came from, where it was located, and the time that it took for the show to spread the system. Once the receiver has both time and reserve it begins to ascertain position.

For the rest of this article, we will discuss the meaning behind what we have learned about this subject so far.

Three satellites give the intersection sense and the fourth is worn to delay that the positioning is accurate. Accuracy depends ahead the synchronization of atomic clocks in the satellites with the regulator in the GPS system. though the regulator in the GPS is not atomic, utilizing the fourth satellite gives it that functionality as the interior regulator adjusts itself to amend any discrepancy discovered.

GPS has vanished far past its opening military application. Drivers can find their way through city streets, long reserve trekkers use the technology to annoy unfamiliar terrain, mariners and pilots use GPS enhanced data to annoy the seas and skies.

In--vehicle GPS can be integrated into the car entertainment system or can be installed as a removable device. These systems want to tell the driver where he/she is and how to attain their destination. The information includes boulevard directions advantage relevant skin along the way such as place stops, gas stations, points of interest, etc. Auto GPS uses voice orders so that the driver can concentrate on the road.

Hikers and trekkers use analogous technology, but typically without the inclusion of street systems on their devices. Mapping software defines the territory that the walker will encounter. The addict can pierce waypoints (points of reference) so they can restore with the same route. They can add points of benefit such as water sources, viable campsites, and other items of benefit on their trail. However, the portability demanded by hikers will also limit the functionality of the system as small screens mean that some detail will be lost.

See how greatly you can learn about auto gps system when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don't overlook out on the support of this great information.

It is GPS technology that is worn to footprint individuals on home arrest, to track gone pets, stolen vehicles, and gone people. Small systems can be incorporated into pet collars and wristwatches. As long as the receiver is active, it can be found.

Marine and aviation GPS units are sophisticated and specialized. The principles tangled are the same as any measure system; the software is greatly more well developed.

Any fisherman, who is with a fish finder on his boat, is with a GPS that is enhanced by sonar and tracking devices. Units have been urbanized for use on hang tubes also - as GPS technology advances, the systems become more and more compact and their uses more and more extensive.

If you are considering purchasing a GPS, make sure that it can be efficient easily. This is especially accurate if you buy a multi--function GPS or one that is worn where conditions change regularly. An in--vehicle GPS shortly loses its usefulness if it is not efficient as boulevard systems change.

Updates vary according to the design being used. They can come in CD/DVD post or as laptop downloads. The consumer can obtain maps limited to the part in which the GPS will be worn or a series of maps and routes. These are open from GPS software companies who will charge proportionally to the sophistication of the software.

GPS units vary in rate according to their usefulness. It is probable to buy units for fewer than one hundred dollars to units costing more than one thousand dollars. What your desires are will be a reason in the loss of your unit. If you are a backpacker then portability is a main consideration. If you are a trucker, you want to be able to find a relief sense as hurriedly and conveniently as possible. anything trick you go for, loss is usually related to quality. Buy the best you can afford.

Now you can be a assured expert on auto gps system. OK, perhaps not an expert. But you should have something to earn to the schedule next time you connect a discussion on auto gps system.

This article is meant to both inform and entertain those who read it. Hopefully, we have (will) accomplished both goals for you.

The fish finder features you choose are extremely important to the enjoyment you get from your purchase. It doesn't matter whether you are a novice once-a-year fisherman or a professional angler, finding those fish down below can be a frustrating experience. You know they're down there – if only you could see underwater!

Well, you can! A fish finder can give you that little extra advantage. Choosing the right fish finder features can enable it to tell you the depth of the water, location of a single fish or schools of fish, bottom composition (soft, rocky, weedy), thermoclines (difference in water temperature), structures in the water (wrecks, stumps, drop-offs), surface water temperature, and location. It can even help you find your way home!

Depending on the fish finder features you choose, you will find a model to fit any budget from under $100 to over $2,000.

1-Display Screen

Monochrome or color – Color is great but if cost is a concern, the color does not affect the accuracy.

Screen size – the wider the screen the larger the viewing area

Clarity – the number of pixels directly affects the sharpness and clarity of the display; the more pixels, the sharper the images will be

Backlit display – allows viewing after dark

Symbols – fish, number and type

Water temperature sensors – on screen display for surface and underwater changes

Audible/visual alarms – for bottom fish or water temperature changes

Example: Furuno FCV582-L

Depth Control Gain (DCG) – for detailed images of structures and bottom densities

Example: Garmin GPSMAP178

2-Mounting

Portable or Fixed-mount – Portable units are entirely self-contained and usually include a carrying case and suction cup transducer hardware. Example: Eagle Fishmark 320

If fixed-mount you will usually attach the transducer to the to the transom of your boat. If you have a single hulled fiberglass boat, you can usually mount it to the inside bottom of your boat. This is known as "shooting through the hull" mounting.

3-Dual or Single Frequency Transponder

Dual frequency – has both 50KHZ and 200KHZ sonar and is used for very deep water or salt water. It will penetrate better in the dense salt water and give a better signal in water over 200 feet deep.

Single frequency – uses only the 200KHZ; used in inland lakes and fresh water and under 200 feet depth. Example: Lowrance X67C

Target definition is actually better with the higher frequency but if you plan to do both fresh and salt water fishing & both shallow and deeper fishing you're better off to get the dual frequency.

4-Temperature gauge

Water temperature greatly affects the behavior of fish. Fish are cold blooded and assume the temperature of the water around them. In lakes, there are warm layers of water and cooler layers. Where these layers meet are called thermoclines. Many times bait fish prefer the areas above the thermoclines while the larger game fish prefer in or just below it. This difference in thermoclines can be seen on the fish finder display screen. The greater the temperature difference, the denser the thermocline shows on the screen. Example: Navman F4500

5-GPS option - Global Positioning System

Your need for the GPS option will depend on where you fish. If you often fish in unfamiliar locations, gps is a great security feature. It maps out your waypoints so you'll always get back to camp, even at night in the dark or around complicated structures and islands. GPS combo units also mark your hot fishing spots so you can come right back to the very same spot a year later. For example, if you fish the same tournaments every year you can mark the best spots and not waste crucial serious fishing time.

Whichever fish finder you choose, this is a great marine electronic device that will make your fishing trips even more enjoyable and successful.

Not only do I have a cell phone, but I can now use this phone to find my destination point, services, and restaurants. I, and many others, have needed a restroom when they are out and about. Unfortunately you can't possibly always know where to find a clean, decent restroom that you'd want to use.

Now Verizon has a new application called Vindigo City Guide. You can open the application, enter your city or zip code and you get a list of nearby public restrooms. Not only do you get this list, but you get directions to all of them and descriptions of the facilities.

Of course, you must pay for this privilege. The cost is $2.99 a month plus taxes and fees. Also, you must be in a major metropolitan area for the list to work. Philadelphia and New York are contained in the data base but, Atlantic City isn't. The guide really only works in the city. Rural areas are not listed at all.

The restaurant guide provides cuisine and reviews, as well as, directions. The service directory lists mechanics and hair stylists.

While mapquest is quite useful when you are at a computer, I find this and the GPS technology to be the best 'new technology' around. I can always use driving directions. I hate getting lost. Since I am and many others carry a cell phone regularly, we can just ask our phone and get the answer.

Okay, to make the Humminbird line even better, now you can mount your fishfinder right to your fishing rod. Really, does it get much simpler than that? It's perfect for you if you can't attach a fishfinder to your kayak or fishing tube, or you are fishing from the bank. We don't think you'll find an easier way to cast your line and see where it lands than by using the RF 20. It allows you to use your hands while you watch what's happening below the surface. This could be one of the best features you can have on your fishing rod. Let's take a look at the features that it offers you.

The RF 20 uses Remote Sonar Sensor (RSS) technology. This is one of the most effective means of knowing what is under the water as well as know what's out ahead of you. This is helpful because it allows you to know just where you need to go to get your fish. Should you cast straight ahead or should you go slightly to the east? You can cast upto 100 feet from your boat or the bank, and it will read upto 100 feet in depth. Then reel it back in. Or attach your bait to the RSS and get a real-time view of what's happening to your cast. This is superb for getting a good look at what's below and what's far out.

You get One-Touch menu navigation to your tools such as FishID+, depth range, fish alarm, and sensitivity. This provides you with simplicity in that you can easily move through your needs while keeping one hand on your line. As for the sonar, you get ultra wide sonar coverage that is equal to twice the water's depth. This is important as you need powerful sonar to see what's below you. This gives you the ability to know where to cast and what to use as bait.

As for the display, we think you will be impressed by the RF 20. It has a high visibility 1 ¼ inch diagonal display with 48V by 32H resolution. The RF 20 has 100 feet in remote operation range and 100 feet in depth capability. This translates into some nice range that will allow you a good idea of what's lurking out there. You get a clear, easy to read digital depth display as well. It includes one waterproof A channel RSS. Get this out there and it will transmit back to you what you need to know! We think that this RF 20 is an excellent option for the fish finder!

Go to the magazine section of your favorite book store or supermarket, and check out any periodical pertaining to the challenging sport of bowhunting. There is a good chance you will find an article discussing the pros and cons of technological advancements in bow and arrow design, material, and manufacture as well as in the myriad accessories offered to make bowhunting "easier".

If the magazine caters to the majority of bowhunters, the article's author will most likely extol the virtues of the latest and greatest in compound bow technology, such as percentage of let-off, cam shape, cable material, riser material and shape, carbon arrows, fletching vanes, feet per second, etc. Don't forget the sure-fire bowhunting success gadgetry like electronic aiming devices, electronic rangefinders, bowstring release triggers, etc. On the other hand, if the periodical is devoted to the more traditional side of the sport; i.e., hunting with recurve bows, long bows, self bows, Indian flat bows, wood arrows with feather fletching, then the opposing view will probably be proffered.

I tend to lean toward the more traditional bowhunting tackle; I shoot a Black Widow recurve and a Howard Hill longbow. I use a bow quiver on the recurve and a leather back quiver with the longbow. I prefer to hunt with home-made cedar arrows with feathers that I burn to size and shape and glue-on Zwickey or Wolverine broadheads. I twist up my own bowstrings. I don't use a sight (can't judge distance that well, anyway), which forces me to get pretty close before I feel comfortable making an instinctive shot. I prefer wool to fleece (own both), plaid to camo (own both), hunting into the wind to cover scents. However, I am not what some technophiles would call an elitist. I have my old-fashioned streak, but I have no problem sharing a camp fire or a tent with a fella and his high tech, "wheelie" bow. I just believe that if a guy or gal decides to chase game with a bow, all that matters is that he or she practices with whichever type of equipment he/she prefers, learns his/her effective range, and doesn't try to shoot beyond it.

So, why am I writing this article about technology versus tradition? Well, as a traditionalist when it comes to bow and arrow, I gotta' tell you, when it comes to safety and survival, give me the high tech stuff anytime! There was a time when I figured all I needed was a topo map and my trusty compass; did fine with them for quite a few years. That's probably because I am blessed with a pretty decent sense of direction and because I hunted in the same area for several years. BUT…..

About ten years ago, my buddy and I decided to check out an area in the Cascades of Washington with which we were not so familiar. As bowhunters often tend to do, we got out of the truck and immediately split up (two guys make three times the racket a single bowhunter makes). After entering the forest to the west of the road and walking a couple hundred yards, I found and followed a game trail southward in what I thought was a parallel with the logging road we drove in on. I pussyfooted through the area for about three hours, covering probably only a couple of miles, and then I decided to head back to the truck in order to meet up with my buddy at the agreed-upon time. I still don't know what possessed me, but instead of simply back-tracking the way I had come, I decided to head east toward the logging road with the intention of crossing it and hunting the other side of the road back to the truck. What I didn't know was the trail I had been hunting did not parallel the road exactly; it was actually on about a 45 degree angle southwest to it. Anyway, I slowly headed in the direction of the road expecting to reach it in a few hundred yards; I didn't. So, I shrugged and climbed the next ridge – still no road. I trudged down to the valley and up the next ridge – still no road. Now I was a bit concerned; so, I opened my pack to get out my topo – not in there; not in my pockets. I had left it on the dashboard of my friend's truck! I hate it when that happens! I broke out my compass. I was, actually, heading east…well, more like southeast, but where in the world was that darned road? Should I go back the way I had come? By now I was even starting to doubt my compass and my sense of direction. I started to whistle and yell in hopes that my buddy or someone who knew where the heck he was would hear and come to guide me out of the forest. No response. After I calmed down a little, I decided to continue on the way I was going. After another hour of climbing over downed trees and four or five more ridges, I finally found the road. I turned north on it, but I came to a fork I didn't remember. Not knowing which way to turn at the fork, I just prayed that I was on the main road, turned around and walked the five miles back to camp. My friend showed up in camp about an hour later intending to get our two other friends to go looking for me. I was pretty embarrassed to say the least.

I swore that wasn't going to happen to me again. Before the next bowhunting season my family and I moved to Colorado. My sweet wife also bought me a Garmin GPS (global positioning system) from Cabela's for Christmas. And boy, did that come in handy a few years ago! I was hunting for the first time on the Uncompaghre Plateau in western Colorado. It had been raining like crazy for much of the trip. While I was in the forest (very thick stands of aspen and spruce) a few miles from camp, it not only started raining again, it became socked in with fog. I got pretty nervous because I could barely see where I was going. Fortunately, in my pack was my GPS, into which I had entered a way point for our camp site the minute we arrived earlier that week. I was able to walk through thick woods, dense fog, and torrential rain directly to camp. Sure, I still keep a topo of any area I hunt in my pocket and the compass in my pack as backup, but will I ever venture into the woods again without my GPS? Not likely! It is as much a part of my survival gear as the first aid kit and fire starters in my pack.

I plan to purchase a pair of the Garmin Rhino combination GPS/walkie-talkies now that my son will start hunting with me next season. No reason he should have to worry about getting lost.

Navigation system Galileo

Posted by Wealth Group | 6:51 PM | 0 comments »

The Galileo positioning system is a proposed satellite navigation system, to be built by the European Union (EU) as an alternative to the US military-controlled Global Positioning System and the Russian GLONASS. The system should be operational by 2010, two years later than originally anticipated. The Galileo positioning system is not abbreviated to GPS; use of the acronym "GPS", here and elsewhere, refers to the existing United States system.

The Galileo System will comprise global, regional and local components. The global component is the core of the system, comprising the satellites and the required ground segment

The regional component of Galileo may comprise a number of External Region Integrity Systems (ERIS), implemented and operated by organisations, countries or groups of countries outside Europe to obtain integrity services independent of the Galileo System, in order, for example, to satisfy legal constraints relating to system guarantees. Local components may be deployed for enhancing the performance of Galileo locally. These will enable higher performance such as the delivery of navigation signal in areas where the satellite signals cannot be received. Value-added service providers will deploy local components.

First off, the Matrix 20 uses a single beam, 24 inch sonar. It is capable of going down 800 feet. That's 800 feet of clear viewing for you. You'll know what's floating down there, where it is, and then you'll be able to plan your course of action.

There are hundreds of locations around the world that are simply excellent locations to enjoy. You will see that many of them are listed here. Others, like the favorite one that you have may not be. There are many unique ways that you too can enjoy the waters the world has to offer.

Consider Manitoba, Canada

The area is known as Land of Lakes that have served to produce many trophy fish. Both still and fly fishing pros love the location. In Manitoba, you'll catch some of the best northern pike and they will give you a good fight too. They strike hard and fast on the Daredevil lure. You can use flies with a good amount of success. You'll also find brook and brown trout, rainbow as well as perch and pickerel. Go in the spring or the fall for the best fishing vacation here.

Good Old Long Island, New York

Here, you'll find Montauk Point. Some of the world's top naturalists have come to the conclusion that this is the place to find the most fish in the world. The point is a glacial cliff and you'll find tuna, cod, mackerel, marlin, striped bass and white shark here. It also features the oldest lighthouse in the states. An inside tip is to cast from the rocks below the lighthouse and you'll get some of the best fishing out there. Although spring and fall are the best times to go, you can come during the summer too.

Wyoming, USA

If you are looking to catch trophy trout in the US, a vacation to Yellowstone National Park is a must. Slough Creek is full of trophy trout, as are other streams within the Park's boundaries, and they are all stocked regularly. Streams and rivers outside of the Park also offer great fishing opportunities, as do the waters of nearby Idaho and Montana. Wyoming is home to 62 native species, including Arctic grayling, burbot, channel catfish, shiners, chub, several trout species, suckers, goldeneye, mountain whitefish, shovelnose sturgeon, and a wide variety of smaller fish.

The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys offer a wide range of fishing opportunities. People come all year round to catch them. In fact, Hemingway himself fished here. The waters are still as excellent as they were then too. You'll find tarpin and bonefish in the Marquesas Islands. You'll find blue marlin, King mackerel, sailfish, yellowfin, shark snapper, and a wide range of others here too.

Head To Hampshire, England

Head just outside of London to get some of the best fly fishing opportunities. Here you'll find trout and Atlantic salmon. Check out the Itchen and Test rivers too although they are on a private island and you'll need to pay to get in, they are excellent opportunities nonetheless. You'll find trout fisheries here, too.

Try Missouri, USA

Go to the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. Here, you can catch bass under the limestone bluffs. You'll find that the river itself has over two hundred different species including bass, channel catfish, sunfish, bullheads, muskellunge, walleye, shad, perch and trout. You'll find more fish here than anywhere in the US.

Here are some tips for you.

Don't take with you all of your equipment unless you really want to. You'll find guide services will provide you with everything that you need.

They can also provide the necessary fishing licenses for you too. Get your information from here too. Make sure if you plan to go out of country that you are allowed to export and import the fish, though.

You can always ask other anglers where they like to fish. Some of the best locations for fishing are in those small, hideouts that are closely guarded secrets!

No matter what level of experience you have as a fisherman, you will benefit greatly from having the right reel for the job. You can easily learn what you should be using though and improve your skill because of it. There are three different types that you need to consider. These are the casting reel, the fly casting reel and the spin casting reel.

The Bait Casting Reel

These are quite difficult. The line on them is pulled off the rod by the lure's weight. It is then thrust forward in the motion of casting. They provide a device that lays the line evenly across the rotating cylinder that acts like the core of the reel. Without a smooth cast it will cause problems when the line is reeled in. The line can become tangled, too.

The Fly Fishing Reel

In a fly fishing real, you need to insure that it has a drag that is very responsive. Then, you'll need to purchase a reel that can stand the tension and strain put on it by a large fish. These are more expensive reels than other types. Make sure to check to make sure there are no plastic parts on the reel. All metal reels are much more dependable and they make it worth the price.

The Spinning Reel

The closed faced reel is the inexpensive spinning reel. It is also fairly easy to control. This is probably the choice you would make for those who are learning to fish. They have a push button release for casting. They have an opening at the top where the line comes out when you cast. The reel will mount on your rod.

The open faced spinning rod is a more challenging option. It comes in many sizes to fit your needs. The lightest models are excellent for pan fish. Larger choices will help you with game fishing or ocean fishing. The line capacity on these is greater and is serviceable when you are after trout or even salmon. They offer a smooth drag. Although you can start with a closed face, you can improve your skills and move on to the open faced.

If you are only choosing one type of reel, go with a medium speed one. If two, then look for both a low speed and a high speed. Also, you should choose the right reel depending on if you are left handed or right handed. Also, remember that the lighter the line is, the smaller the reel. You'll need to insure that the fishing line and the fishing reel will work together well.

You can get help with learning what type of reel to purchase from the salespeople at the fishing tackle shop.

The Basics Of Trout Fishing

Posted by Wealth Group | 6:51 PM | 0 comments »

First things first, you need to know which fish are considered trout. The term can be one that is used for salmon family fish. It includes rainbow, brown, brook, cutthroat and steelhead. You'll find that they are native to Europe, North America and Asia. But, they have been introduced to many areas around the world. Anglers love going after them for their beauty, taste and of course their size.

You'll find most of them in cooler lakes and rivers. Look where the rapidly moving water finds the slower moving water and where deep water hits the shallow. You can see them in the rocks in a calmer river too. Other species will tend to migrate towards slower currents or faster ones. You'll find brook, brown and rainbow trout at the head of a pool and the others towards the middle or end of it. You will find most of your trout in water adjacent to the main current.

Baits For Trout

You'll find a good variety of bait works for snagging the trout you are after. Some of these include earthworms, crayfish, minnows, spinners, and insects work well. Also, consider marshmallows and kernel corn.

Equipment Needed

For most still water fishing, go with a fiberglass or a graphite rod about six or seven feet. Use a basic reel. Eight to ten pound test line works well. For fly fishing, go with a nine foot fly rod and to catch trout over four pounds add 75 feet to your reel. Make sure to get out those waders and your vest with all the flies, knives and baskets you'll need.

Trout fishing is a type of fishing that is enjoyable. Most enjoy finding just that right spot, behind the fallen tree or in the shallow rocks where the trout love to hide. They are lurking just out of the way of that main current. Take the time to learn more about trout fishing from a professional, or look to taking a few lessons. It will pay off.

Not only do you have to have skill to cast and get the fish to take hold, but you have to reel him in and land him too. It can be quite a challenge.

How To Learn To Fish

There are several things that you can do to learn how to fish. And, none of them are hard to do. Here are some tips for you to take advantage of.

All of this knowledge isn't something that you need to know now though. You'll learn in your training as well as through experience.

How Do You Make Your Own Fishing Bait?

Posted by Wealth Group | 6:51 PM | 0 comments »

There are many recipes that you can take full advantage of to help you to score the big fish. Why not make the bait at home on your own? Here are just a couple of the options that you have in fish bait recipes.

Salmon Eggs: How To Cure Them

There are several fish that this will work well for. If you are after largemouth bass, salmon, lake trout or muskellunge, you'll love to use these because they will give you good results. Here's a step by step to help you.

- When cleaning your salmon, keep the egg sacs intact.

- Cover a large flat surface that you can easily move with borax.

- Cut the egg sacs across the membrane about three to four inches and lay them at least one inch apart on the borax.

- Sprinkle more borax on top and make sure they are all covered.

- Move them to an area with good circulation that is also sheltered. You do not want them in any sunlight or in any way getting wet.

- Allow them to dry for two or three days and turn them about every twelve hours.

- Shake off the excess borax and place them in plastic bags for storage. You can use them when they are completely dry.

Or How About Some Cheese Bait?

You can use this type of homemade bait to catch carp, chub, bream and catfish. Here's what you need to do.

- Roll out about ten ounces of pie pastry on your counter top.

- Use mature cheddar flavor cheese to smear on the pastry.

- Add six ounces of grated cheddar cheese and four ounces of blue cheese crumbles that are finely ground.

- Fold that pastry over so that it is completely covering the cheese. Then, roll it out again.

- Do this several times until the pastry and the cheese are completely combined.

- Form into a large ball and knead it.

- Place some cheddar cheese bits into the bottom of a plastic bag then place the cheese ball into it as well. Freeze it.

- Once thawed the consistency is perfect and it will have a good cheese smell to it. Roll it into small balls and store in an air tight container. You can then use them next time you head out.

Who said you couldn't make your own great baits for your favorite catch? This is a great way to get some of the best baits for next to nothing as well. Go ahead and give it a try. You would be surprised how well these work.

When you experience the thrill of deep sea fishing you will realize why so many people enjoy it. You'll find a number of excellent fish are prime for the choosing, many of which you won't find elsewhere. Some of your choices include swordfish, shark, tuna, marlin, and sailfish. You will find that there are some specialized tools that you need to enjoy the sport though. Here are some of the options that you have.

Your rod and reel are your backbone. You'll need heavy equipment that means a reel that can hold up to 300 yards of line. The line itself should be between twelve and thirty pound test weight. You'll need to make sure your rod, your reel and your line all are balanced in size. For hook size, look for 3.0 to 6.0 and the leader should be between ten and fifteen feet long. Double line them. You'll want leaders that are 30 to 50 pound test.

Bait For Deep Sea

A good choice for most deep sea anglers is live ballyhoo especially for sailfishing. For bigger choices, consider blue runners, speedos, googleyes, dead bait rigs and lures. If you can, provide the type of bait that is natural prey for the fish that you are after. For example, sure hermit crabs, shrimp, squid, and threadfin for sea fishing. You'll find that your grouper, kingfish, snapper, wahoo and tuna will take these baits well.

A couple of rules of thumb when it comes to bait include not touching it with sunscreen and touching it as little as possible. You'll find a lot of bait near the locations that they are cleaning fish. You can even use the seabirds to help direct you to were bait is plentiful.

For gear, make sure that you take into consideration where you plan to fish.. You'll need things like rain gear and warm clothing. You can ask your charter for more information.

One of the wisest things that you can do to learn to deep sea fish is to take a chartered service out. This way, you are being taken to where the fish are and you are likely to have a few people to help you to learn the tricks of the trade. Make sure that the charter is a reliable, trustworthy company and you can't go wrong. Whatever you do, get out there and enjoy the beautiful water and the gorgeous fish!

Enjoying Competition Sport Fishing

Posted by Wealth Group | 6:51 PM | 0 comments »

What is sport fishing? You could be competing for a trophy or you may be looking to catch the largest fish from all of your friends. Competitions are by far the most popular reason for sport fishing though. You can go both still fishing or fly fishing. You'll have a specific time frame and depending on the weight and the species that you catch, you may just bring home the big one. The type of line that you use is also important here. The heavier the line, the fewer points you'll get.

There are different types of sport fishing. Bass fishing, shore fishing, fly fishing, big game fishing, troll fishing and ice fishing are some of them. The competitions are based on the group of anglers, the conditions and the type of fish they are after. There is a wide range of options out there. You'll be able to catch fish like marlin, walleye, salmon, shark, tuna and a wide range of others.

Equipment You'll Need

The equipment you need depends on what type of fish you are after as well as what type of fishing you are doing. You'll need to have the basics of rod, reel and tackle. Some will allow you to bring along your fish finder while others will not. Make sure you take a moment to see what the rules say.

For bait, you'll need to take with you're the bait that works for the fish you are after of course. You can go from simple things such as lures and spinners to wet and dry flies, shrimp or live fish and other live bait.

Understanding Fishing Line

The type of line used in these tournaments is often lighter than the force that the fish applies to it. Why? It's more of a challenge of course! You should purchase a high tech drag mechanism on your reel to compensate for this. This will keep the right tension in the line when the fish takes off. Only when the fish gets tired of running will you have the ability to land him. It can be quite challenging but that is what makes it so fun, right!

How To Fight The Big Guy

There are several methods that are used to fight hooked fish. One is the use of a game chair. The fisherman sits there and places the butt of his rod in a gimbaled mount. You'll need quite a long rod for this and it needs to be bent correctly to fit properly. This is not an easy task and you'll need experience to get it right. Or, you can go with the stand up method. You'll use a harness this time around. You'll need to eat your Wheaties for this one though.

Ready to give it a try? You may find yourself shocked by the price of it all. It can cost you up to $25,000 if you purchase everything. You can take advantage of charter services though which will cut down on the supplies (especially your boat!) and you'll get everything that you need. Take the time to learn with a professional to help you to make the most out of every tournament you enter. Winning the prize can help to lower these costs and make it all well worth it!

You can use many varieties of baits on salmon. In freshwater varieties, go with plugs, worms, lures and flies. In saltwater, go with flies, streamers, crustaceans, and lures.

Gear For Salmon

For fly fishing, you'll need a twelve to sixteen foot graphite or fiberglass rod. You will need fly reel and line too. In bait fishing, you'll need a ten foot spinning rod and bait caster reel with up to a twenty pound test line. For Chinook's, you'll need a boat or a trolling rod. As you know, the Chinook are the largest of the salmon so you will need twenty to forty five pound test line.

When you are after Atlantic's, go for a fly fish or use spoons, natural baits and plugs to help you. On the Pacific side, use trolling just off the shoreline and use estuaries.

No matter which of the mighty salmon you are after, you are sure to get a good fight. Be prepared with a full tackle box and a large cooler when you are after King Salmon!

But, we have to mention some of its other features as well. With a depth level of 1500 feet, and high performance capabilities, this is a great product. It allows for an extra wide angle giving you more to see and therefore allowing for more impressive pictures. You can use this high performance sonar as well as its other abilities to decide where your fish is, to cast perfectly to the location, to lure him in with the bait and of course, to bring that fish on board.

Having the ability to do this, will make you the accomplished fisherman to say the least!

The fish you are after in saltwater fishing are probably these:

- cod

- tarpon

- eels

- sea catfish

- mackerel

- barracuda

- swordfish

- bass

- tuna

- sharks

- and many more varieties.

The Gear You Need

First and foremost, you need a good quality rod. Go for 8 and a half to 9 feet. Also, insure it is good quality as you will need the strength. In reels, you should go for those that are protected from saltwater corrosion. Look for those made from stainless steel, titanium or fiber/resin. Again, go with a good quality choice, one that is at least $100. For your line, you'll need a floating line for flat or shallow areas. For underwater fishing, go with a clear, middle ground line. Try out one of the clear, sink tip lines too. In leaders, you need a longer leader for a shy fish. For one that is toothy, go with a thick leader. Also, flies. You will need to choose a variety of flies. You can purchase them in a wide variety or look for those promoted by expert anglers.

Now, Casting

Have you done any fly casting for trout? Yes? Then, you'll have no problem. The goal is to go light. Don't overline which is when you use a line that is over the recommended weight for your fishing rod. No experience? Try to take advantage of some lessons before heading out or take a professional to teach you.

When it comes to hooking your fish, don't lift your rod high into the air. You don't want to fight it. Try to upset the fish's swimming pattern by rolling it. When you are ready to land it, keep your rod tip low. If you high stick it, then you are likely to break your rod. Use a pair of pliers and gloves to make sure you don't end up hurt.

What To Bait With

You can use both live and artificial bait in saltwater fishing. You can use live and natural products for a wide range of fish. Most will take shrimp and baitfish work well too. If you use something that your fish would normally eat in his diet, you are likely to get a hit. This could be things like crayfish, crabs, oysters and crustacean. Make sure that you do not overweight it. The size of your hook should be the size of your bait.

All of this has you ready to head out to enjoy the awesome adventure of saltwater fishing. You can find most of your equipment and a whole lot of information online for your next saltwater trip.

Have you had the opportunity to fish in freshwater? While some find it to be a distant relation to other types of fishing, it is still one of the best ways to spend your time. There are hundreds of lakes out there that you can be enjoying virtually any time that you would like to. To learn more about it, take a look at your options here.

Fresh water fishing is done in lakes, rivers and streams that have minute quantities of dissolved salts. Freshwater sources are precipitation or melting ice and snow. There are many fresh water fish species, but some of the most important ones are bass, catfish, pickerel, pike sunfish, trout, salmon, muskellunge, sturgeon and walleye.

Equipment for Freshwater Fishing

What you'll need for basic freshwater fishing equipment includes a fishing rod and reel, fishing line between 4 and 10 pound-test, a variety of sinkers, a variety of hooks (sizes 6 to 10), floats, bait and in most locations, a fishing permit or license. There are a variety of both live and artificial baits that work well for fresh water fishing.

Bait You'll Need

Live bait works well for fresh water fishing. Freshwater fish feed on a variety of prey, including earthworms, insects, insect larvae, frogs, minnows, chub, shad, crayfish and small fish species such as smelt. Freshwater fishing bait such as earthworms, crayfish, frogs, minnows, chubs and shads can be caught in its natural habitat. Look around piers and in shallow water. Freshwater bait can also be purchased from your local bait and tackle shop.

Artificial bait is manmade bait that attracts fish to bite or strike. It includes plastic worms, insects, flies, small jigs, lures, spoons, streamers, flies, spinners and more. Artificial bait can be purchased at fishing tackle and bait shops or online. Some anglers prefer to buy the supplies for these types of baits and make their own.

There are a wide variety of prepared baits that you can use for freshwater fishing. These include kernel corn, bread balls, cheese balls, egg bags, liver, cereal balls, chicken entrails. Here is just a short list of some freshwater fish and the bait that attracts them.

Catfish

earthworms, liver, chicken entrails, hotdogs, frogs, tadpoles, crayfish and most lures. At times you can even catch them on shiny hooks that have no bait.

Pike

earthworms, frogs, minnows, shad, all types of small fish species, crayfish, chub, spinners, spoons and egg sacs.

Bass

earthworms, insects, insect larvae, frogs, minnows, crayfish, spoons, Mepps, spinners, artificial worms, jigs, streamers and spinners.

Salmon

flies, spinners, spoons, egg sacs, shrimp and large plugs.

Sunfish

earthworms, bread balls, kernel corn, insects and insect larvae, as well as small, shiny lures.

Pickerel

earthworms, insects, insect larvae, frogs, minnows, crayfish, spoons and Mepps, spinners, artificial worms, jigs, spinners and streamers.

Walleye

shad, frogs, real or artificial minnows, worms, maggots, spinners, spoons, jigs, plugs and small fish species.

Trout

earthworms, flies, insects, insect larvae, kernel corn, egg sacs, crayfish and minnows.

Muskellunge

small fish species, frogs, Mepps, spinners, jigs, minnows, plastic trailers and rapalas.

Sturgeon

frogs, freshwater clams, lamprey, eels, smelt, salmon eggs, shad, shrimp, egg sacs, yarn flies, brilliantly colored and silver lures.

Go ahead and give it a try. If you would like to learn more about this type of fishing, you need to talk to someone that is a professional that can show you just what you need to do, where to go and what to use to be successful at freshwater fishing.

The Basics Of Fly Fishing: Getting It Right

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:51 AM | 0 comments »

You take the time to get into just the right location in that great stream that your friend told you about. You have been waiting for so long to enjoy this time, alone, fishing to your heart's content. There are many amazing moments in life but fly fishing is one of your favorite. You'll get into the waders, getting into just that right location so that you can cast.

The tip of your rod should be in the four o' clock position with 20 feet (6 meters) of line extended beyond your rod's tip. Trap the line between the rod handle and your index finger. To begin the back cast, bend your elbow, raise your forearm and move the rod tip from four o'clock to eleven thirty and lift the line from the water. Pause for a moment at this point to allow the line to extend behind you before casting the rod forward. Allow the rod to follow through as the line extends to its full length in front of you. Then continue to work the line in this manner. A fish strikes. The fight is on and you successfully land the fish. This is fly casting.

Fly fishing is an old method of angling. It was primarily developed to catch trout and salmon. Today, it is still used to fish these species, but is also used to catch bass, carp, pike and a wide range of saltwater fish. The difference between casting and fly fishing is that in casting you use the weight of your bait, sinker and bobber to propel your cast. In fly fishing, the weight of the line propels your line forward and puts your fly into position. The fly cannot do this, as it is essentially weightless. The goal in fly fishing is to present the fly gently and to always be in control of it.

When you fly fish, you need special fishing equipment that includes a fly rod and reel, a special fly fishing line and artificial or live flies. These are tied onto your hook with feathers, fur, thread or other materials in colors and sizes that represent natural prey. The key to successful fly fishing is balance. The rod, reel and line, as well as the tippet all have to match in order to have a positive fly fishing experience.

Rod, Reels and Lines

Fly fishing rods are lightweight and long. The line provides the casting weight and is heavy. It can be of differing density, depending on whether you want the fly to sink or float. Line is matched to your rod by weight. Look near the fly rod butt to find out what line weight must be used. Graphite rods are best because they can produce any action that you wish to use. If you are a beginner, buy a basic and moderately priced rod, or borrow one from a family member or friend.

Flies and Leaders

Flies weigh very little. The fly is usually attached to the line by a leader that is two to three meters in length (6 to 9 feet). The leader often tapers to a fine end. This is called a tippet. Tippet size range from 8X, which is the smallest, to 0X, which is the largest. Tippets are set in units of .001 inches. To match the tippet to the fly, you must subtract from eleven and multiply by .001.

For example to find the diameter of a 4X tippet, you would subtract four from eleven. That equals seven. Now, multiply by .001. This size would be .007. What if you have a # 18 fly? How would you calculate tippet size? You would put eighteen over four and calculate. The answer would be 4.5. Since there is no 4.5 X tippet, you would move to the next largest size, which would be 5.

Types of Fly Fishing

There are two types of fly fishing - dry and wet. Wet flies are fished beneath the water surface and are divided into several types, including live wet flies, lures and nymphs. Dry flies float on the water surface and are coated with a substance called, 'floatant' to make this possible.

If you are interested in fly fishing and can't decide which equipment you need to have a positive fishing experience, ask an experienced angler for help. This can be a family member, friend, someone from the local angler's club or a staff member of the local fly fishing shop. Fly fishing is not as hard to learn as it appears to be. Have fun and enjoy that big catch.

The best way to enjoy your catch is to take the time to enjoy the many wonders that the fishing experience offers. No matter what that first adventure turns out to be, you can make it amazing by spending some time learning the skills from an experienced fisherman.

Essential Fishing Accessories

Posted by Wealth Group | 2:51 AM | 0 comments »

In order to truly enjoy the art and sport of fishing, you'll need a few basic essentials as well as some of the various other accessories that just make fishing enjoyable. You will find that this is a great time to learn about what options you have in fishing and to gather up your tools so that you can set out to enjoy the day.

The rod and reel are the most fundamental of all fishing equipment. You can go with a basic set if you are buying for children or are just the casual fisherman. You'll also choose basic tackle including hooks, sinkers, fishing line and as bobbers. You'll need needle nose pliers too. You should consider purchasing a net as well. Make sure to choose the right size of net as a small net can easily lose you the catch. If you fish for a number of different fish, then look for one larger and one smaller option to consider.

Consider the electronic alarm. This wonderful contraption will allow your fishing line to thread through the slot in the alarm head. When you get that bite, the alarm goes off and the LED display flashes. You know there is something waiting for you then! There are a wide range of options to consider here.

Your clothing choices are also important to consider. You'll need a fishing hat and sunglasses, to protect you from the sun's powerful rays. A vest is another option especially if it has lots of pockets in it. Waders are idea for thigh or chest type fishing excursions. A good waterproof jacket is almost a necessity in the fall or spring months. Gloves are essential as well. You can select rain suits to help keep you dry as well.

Other things to consider include forceps, flashlights, wading shoes, scissors and a fishing belt. For game fish, consider a gaff. The tackle box or bag, pliers and pocket thermometers are important as well. Think about angling pliers and a good quality fishing knife and sharpener too. Of course, you should take with you a floatation vest or life jacket if you are heading out onto a boat.

Before you run out and spend a considerable amount of money, though, make sure that you take into considerations the type of fish you are after as well as the skill and preferences that you have. Not sure what you need? You can always ask a family member or friend for help but more than likely your information can come from the staff member at your local bait shop.

Fishing only gets better when you have more than enough fishing accessories to help you get the job done correctly. Most of these accessories can be purchased through the web or in any of the best fishing tackle shops near you.

Getting A Line On Bass Fishing

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:51 AM | 0 comments »

Bass fishing offers a wide range of ability and challenge for the beginner and the professional. There are several fish in the species line including bluegills, spotted bass, largemouth and rock bass. These are warm water bass. Others such as striped bass, white bass and white perch are a temperate bass. If you are heading out to catch some bass, your first and most important goal is to know where to find them.

Where You Have To Look For Bass

There are several locations that they like to call home. For one, look in your lakes. You can find a wide range of them in shallow lakes in the south. This is where you are likely to find your largemouth bass. Here, look in the weeds and in the reeds. But, you are likely not to find too many here. They enjoy eating algae and plankton which is not readily available in many lakes. Instead, look to the rivers. The water temperatures and the oxygen levels are just right in many rivers for the bass. You'll need to look just outside the current's direct flow. Look on the downstream side of rocks and fallen trees as this is where they enjoy hiding. To catch them, do some bottom and surface fishing.

A great place to find your bass is to look in streams. Here, you will find smallmouth bass in the cooler water of the streams especially just below the rapids. Look in the hiding places such as where erosion has made holes. Look where there are rocks or fallen limbs as well. Look below a dam especially on a hot day. You'll find that they are never in direct current flow. Also, take a look at ponds. These are a source for smaller bass especially near the shore near fallen logs. Of course, look in the reeds. You can fish any of these locations at night for good results too.

Remember that bass are looking for prime conditions and will search them out. They are looking for just the right water temperature and water level. They will seek out locations with good food supply and the right sunlight.

As for bait, you'll want to use a wide range of choices. In still fishing, go with night crawlers, insects and minnows. For bait casting and spinning, use artificial products, trolling with live bait or you can even fly fish for them. For lures, make sure to get at least a five and a half to seven foot rod and your line should be about six to ten pound test. For fly fishing, go with seven to nine feet in rod with a fast taper. You will also need a single action reel that has floating #7 to #9 line with a six to eight pound leader.

If you can, take someone skilled at bass fishing with you your first time out. You are likely to learn a lot. Talk to your local bait shop dealer to learn what bait will work well for your bass. Pick a variety of locations to fish and you'll find success.

Fishing is a sport that requires you to be prepared. Sure, you can grab any sort of stick, attach a rope to it and TRY to catch something. But, in today's wide world of products, you can do so much better and become that much more successful at fishing. There are several things that you'll need and that's what we will talk about here.

First, what is fishing tackle? This is the equipment you'll need to get your bait out there. You don't need to spend a fortune on it, but what you should do is get the right products for your needs instead.

The Rod And The Reel

The most fundamental product that you need is the rod and reel. For a beginner, go with a lightweight choice that has a spinner reel on it. You can even purchase them together. As for length, go for about six feet for the adults and four to five for your child.

Next on the list is fishing line. It is also called filament. You'll need to know which weight to get. This is called the pound test. The larger the pound test number is, the stronger the line is. Depending on the type of fish you are after, you'll need to choose the line that is about the weight of the fish. For a small, light rod, go with up to six pound test. If you are using a large sized spinning reel, go with a stronger line. For bait casting reels, go with six to thirty pound test. The most popular options are the eight to sixteen. Don't always think that heavier is better though as many of the fish will be able to see the line and won't go near it.

Also in your equipment, you'll need a fishing net. This will help you to catch your bait and can help you bring the fish in.

Options In Bait

There are many options in bait that you'll need in that tackle box. First, we'll talk about which live choices you have. Go with earthworms to start. You can dig your own or get them from the bait shop. You can go with mealworms or grubs as well. Depending on the type of fish you are after, you are likely to have a type of bait to use to catch them. Ask your local anglers for information about which seem to work the best for your area.

There are several other products that you will find that you'll need in the way of tackle. Here are some of them and what they are good for.

Bobbers. These are floats that you'll attach to your line to dangle your bait in front of the fish. They give you some extra weight when casting. They will sit at the top of the water. Small is a better way to go and make sure it is just enough weight to keep the bait from dragging.

Hooks. You'll need to choose the right size for the job at hand. When using live bait, buy sizes from six to ten. For bullhead or catfish, you'll need larger hooks. For catch and release fishing, look for fish hook barbs that can be flattened. To choose look for the size that is about the right size for the mouth of the fish you are trying to catch. Too large and you won't get a bite and too small will leave you with the hook in its belly.

Sinkers are next. These are weights that come in a wide assortment. They are used to keep your line from floating under the water. Split shot sinkers are tiny and they are by far the most popular. But, some weights can get up to a pound in weight. Make sure that they are lead free though when you purchase them.

Leaders. These are small metal pieces with an eye on one end and a pin catch on the other. The pin is used to slip a hook or lure onto it. You'll then thread the line through the eye and knot it. They are helpful when it comes to changing hooks and lures. You may want to consider them when you are after muskellunge, walleye, or northern pike as they'll keep the fish from biting through your line.

Swivels are used instead to attach hooks and lures without a leader. There is an eye on one end and a pin clip on the other. The same process is done as with a leader except that the pin clip opens much like a safety pin. They protect your line from tangling as your bait moves in the water.

In your tackle box, fill it with several very important things. For example, you'll need a good quality fishing knife. This will help you do many things from cutting tangled line to cleaning your catch. Also, make sure to have a pair of needle nose pliers in there to help you remove hooks safely. It is wise to have a first aid kit on hand as well and make sure it includes antibacterial lotion. In fact, the tackle box itself should be organized with all of your gear and kept clean. Some will even come with the artificial bait you may need.

The best place to find all that you need in fishing tackle is through the web. You'll find some of the best products here. Not sure what to purchase? Ask a local professional to help you to know what works well in your area. This can lead to some excellent fishing experiences.

Cell Phone GPS Tracking - Privacy Issues

Posted by Wealth Group | 6:51 PM | 0 comments »

Although there are many advantages to cell phone GPS tracking, there are also privacy concerns. As most people carry their cell phone with them at all times, the ability is in place to track the exact movements of all individuals. Is this a case of Big Brother, and who can access to this information?

Cell Phone GPS tracking can prove useful in many walks of life and especially when an emergency arises. Picture the scene of a road accident where injuries have occurred. A 911 call made from a GPS cell phone would significantly speed up the arrival of the emergency services if the GPS signal from the cell phone can be pin-pointed to an exact location. This feature alone could save many lives.

For these reasons the FCC has instructed that wireless network providers provide the cell phone GPS tracking location information for 911 calls which have been made from cell phones. This is known as E911. In essence this is no different than a 911 call made from a land line, as the land line is registered to an address and the relevant emergency services can be quickly dispatched to that address.

However, where the difference occurs is that a property does not move but the tracking of a GPS cell phone is registering the day to day movements of an individual, and that has given rise to the privacy concerns of who can access such private information.

However, the relevant law relating to E911 is fairly explicit. It allows carriers to provide tracking location information to third parties for e911 emergency calls only, however not under any other circumstances whatsoever without the consent of the cell phone owner.

The privacy of cell phone GPS tracking has also been backed up by a number of recent court hearings.

Recent court hearings have disallowed the requests of law enforcement agencies to obtain cell phone GPS tracking information from the cell phone companies for suspects. The courts have ruled that Congress have not authorized location tracking without actual evidence of wrongdoing and that probable cause is not sufficient reason for the release of records.

These events will ensure that the advantages of cell phone GPS tracking will not be compromised by privacy issues and that its long term future and usefulness is secured.

Cell Phone GPS Tracking

The development of communications technology has long since surpassed the sole ability to access others when they are mobile. Today, mobile communication devices are becoming much more technologically

advanced and offer more than the ability to just carry on a conversation. Cell phone GPS tracking is one of those advances.

GPS or Global Positioning System tracks your location by interpreting the data received from 3 or more satellites. This has made GPS a popular feature in cars as a navigational aid.

All cell phones constantly broadcast a radio signal, even when not on a call. The cell phone companies have been able to estimate the location of a cell phone for many years using triangulation information

from the towers receiving the signal. However, the introduction of GPS technology into cell phones has meant that cell phone GPS tracking now makes this information a lot more accurate.

With GPS technology now more commonplace in many new cell phones, this means that the location of anyone carrying a compatible cell phone can be accurately tracked at any time. Cell phone GPS tracking

can therefore be a useful feature for business owners and fleet managers who need to be able to keep track of their vehicle movements.

Cell phone GPS tracking can also be a useful feature to the emergency services or police when responding to a 911 call from a GPS cell phone. For this reason, the FCC has legislated that wireless

networks provide location information for 911 calls made from cell phones. These are known as E911 calls.

As technology advance even further, future features will be even more powerful. Imagine GPS cell phones used as a navigational device. Based on the cell phone GPS tracking signal, they could be used to find

your way to a location, calculate your speed based on your location change over time, from this calculate your estimated arrival time, suggest an alternative route and even phone the person you are

calling to see with your ETA! Of course in car GPS navigation systems can already perform many of these tasks, however it is the portability of cell phones that makes them so useful for this technology.

Cell phone GPS tracking could also be used to locate the whereabouts of your children and offer protection to elderly relatives should something happen and they need urgent assistance.

These features will help to secure the future of cell phone GPS tracking providing advantages for all.

Autopilots The first self-steering gear was introduced in the 1920's to control model yachts but it was not until 1948 that the principle was applied to full scale yachts. Standing at the helm for lengthy periods, monitoring instruments and keeping a good look out can be very tiring. An autopilot relieves the helmsman from steering the correct course leaving him free to maintain a proper watch. The autopilot can be set to either steer a compass course or a course relative to the wind. A fluxgate compass or electronic wind indicator feeds information to a microprocessor which then makes the necessary rudder movements to return the vessel to it's required course. The mechanical power is applied to the rudder by either electric linear activators, hydraulic pumps or rotary drives. GPS/Chart plotters can be used to input navigational instructions to the autopilot.

Battery Chargers will keep batteries fully charged thereby extending their working life.

Chart Plotters Typically a chart plotter consists of an antenna, mounted high on the boat, to track GPS signals and a display unit sited either at the at the navigation station or the helm of the vessel. The vessels position is sent from the antenna to the display unit which in turn shows it graphically on the chart. The Chart itself will look similar to it's paper equivalent and show depth, land mass, navigational aids such as bouys and potential dangers in the form of wrecks and obstructions. The user can add way points to the chart and zoom in and out of the display. Chart plotters can be connected to drive an autopilot and/or send GPS data to a fish finder or radar. They can also interface with a laptop enabling complex passage planning to be done away from the boat and then entered into the chart plotter after arriving at the boat.

Magnetic Transmitting Compasses work like traditional compasses using magnets to determine the vessels orientation to the earth's magnetic field they then transmit the boats heading to an electronic display. They make steering easier than with conventional compasses because they display steadier headings and do not suffer from the "lag" that occurs when making a turn. They can interface with chart plotters, autopilots and radar. Fluxgate Compasses consist of two pieces of readily saturated magnetic material with coils wound round them in opposing directions. AC current is passed through the coils and the material is saturated in one direction and then the other. The earth's magnetic field affects slightly the time at which saturation occurs, earlier in one coil and later in the other. The difference is then calculated giving an output proportional to the earth's magnetic field. They are accurate to 0.1 of a degree. Their output can be displayed digitally to the helmsman or they can interface with autopilots, chart plotters and radar.

Echo Sounders work on the same principle as sonar. A transducer emits a narrow beam of high frequency sound. This is reflected by any solid objects and the time between transmission and receipt of the echo is measured. The speed of sound through water is know and so the range or distance to the sea bed can be calculated. That is then displayed in metres. Forward Looking Sonar (FLS) enables you to see the underwater hazards before you're actually on top of them. A typical range for a FLS is 150 metres.

An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) is a piece of equipment designed to float free of a vessel in distress. It then sends a radio signal that can be detected by Search and Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking (SARSAT) satellites. They relay a message to a ground station that in turn can instigate a search and rescue operation.

Fish Finders use the same technology as sonar. A narrow beam of high frequency sound is transmitted by a transducer, this is reflected by solid objects such as the sea bed. By developing this technology fishfinders provide displays that show where the fish are and they can differentiate between bait fish and larger species

Global Positioning System (GPS Receivers) - This system was originally designed for military purposes and is owned and operated by the United States Department of Defence. 24 satellites are arranged in a "birdcage" around the globe, they are positioned in such a way that at any place on the earth's surface a direct line of sight can be established to a minimum of 4 satellites. A fix is obtained by measuring accurately the distance between a satellite and the GPS receiver at a precise time. Because the exact position of the satellite is known, these distances provide position lines which are converted by a microprocessor within the GPS receiver to read outs of latitude and longitude.

The log is used to measure the boats speed through the water. A paddle wheel or impeller, mounted below the waterline is turned by the flow of water, this generates electrical impulses that are fed to a microprocessor that displays both speed and distance run.

Inverters - On most boats today you will find domestic equipment of one sort or another. For on board entertainment there are televisions and stereo systems. With the popularity of chart plotters comes the PC or laptop. Maintenance often requires the use of power tools. Liveaboards might have a washing machine, dishwasher or microwave. Can take 12v, 24v or 48v supply and convert it to a stable 110 v or 220v AC supply.

Navtex can perhaps best be described as a continuously updated telex service providing navigation and weather information within specified areas. An on board receiver, tuned to 518kHz, the worldwide Navtex frequency, if left turned on will either print out or display the latest massages sent from a local station. The service is available up to 400 miles from the coast.

Radar enables you to see what otherwise would be invisible. They offer greatest benefit at night and in fog or rain and are of particular value when close to shore or in busy shipping lanes. They consist of an antenna and a display. The antenna sends out a stream of RF energy which is reflected back off hard objects. When this energy is bounced back it is converted to a signal which displayed to the user. The antenna rotates every few seconds, the display continuously calculates the direction of the antenna and so a precise bearing to the target is calculated. The time is measured for the energy to be reflected and so the distance of the target is also displayed.

Satellite Phones consist of an antenna, a modem and a normal handset. They are powered by an iridium battery. Their range is anywhere covered by in Inmarsat Mini-M satellite. Voice, fax, email and data can be transmitted.

Satellite TV requires an antenna and of course a television. Reception is available within a "footprint" which is based on EIRP (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power) of a transmitting satellite. The EUTELSAT together with the two ASTRA satellites cover Europe. NILESAT and the two ARABSATs cover Africa and the Middle East. Good coverage is also available in North, Central and Southern America.

SSB Radio has a range of several thousand miles. You will need an FFC license, or the equivalent in whichever country you plan to operate it. Power consumption is a consideration. Up to 100 Watts may be required for transmission. SSB radio requires several items of equipment. A transceiver capable of SSB operation, An antenna, this must be 8 metres long and in practice most boats use a backstay or shroud for the purpose having fitted the necessary insulators. An antenna tuner matched to the transceiver model. If you want to send email you will also need and radio modem and computer.

VHF Radio The power required to transmit is minimal, all sets have the option of transmitting on either 1 Watt or 25 Watts and the lower power should be used whenever possible. Unlike telephones that allow you to both talk and hear at the same time most VHF sets require you to press a transmit button prior to talking. This is known as simplex. Duplex sets are available but are much more expensive. VHF radio waves travel in straight lines so the aerial should be mounted as high as possible, preferably at the masthead.

Ice fishing tips for Beginners

Posted by Wealth Group | 2:51 AM | 0 comments »

Did you hear the one about the guy who went ice fishing and came back with 50 lbs. of ice?

Well, if you found yourself here your at least one step ahead of this fella, that is unless you intended to bring home some ice.

Ice fishing is actually a very simple sport but must be practiced with some caution.

WHAT you say?

Seriously before you set out to catch any fish on "hard" water there a couple of things you should be concerned about. Firstly, make sure you are equipped with the proper attire. Setting out from home on a nice sunny day is fine but once you approach your destination things may have drastically changed or may change without notice. This would also be a good time to check the weather channel or newspaper for the up to date weather forecast.

Secondly, remember to check the ice conditions wherever you go, there are local ice hut operators or locals who are willing to help make your trip safe.

A friend of mine told me once, "You can always take it off, but its pretty hard to put it on if you haven't got it!"

My advice, purchase a good floatation suit. They are warm and if you happen to break thru the ice it will probably save your life.

A warm dry set of gloves, preferably without fingers is a must. This way all the fingers share the warmth. A full face balaclava is also required as well as sunglasses. A scarf can help but be cautionary of the vehicle you are using to get you out to your favorite spot. You don't want to have it get tangled up in a chain or track.

Several layers of clothes are a benefit just for the luxury of taking them off. Another good idea is to have a fishing buddy. They are not only there to enjoy the day with you and help make the fishing story a real tale but if an emergency arises they are the only support you've got.

We still have a few small things to do before setting out. Make sure your transportation is trustworthy, a general maintenance check will do, tell someone where your going and how long you expect to be gone and last but not least, a simple thing like a compass, so you don't get lost.

Okay, are we having fun yet. Now that we have got all the scary stuff done, its time to leave, right .... WRONG !

You forgot the gear.

A general rule of thumb regarding gear is to choose the equipment you will need to match the fish you are seeking (e.g. the larger the fish, the heavier the tackle).

Of course you won't be able to get to them if you don't have a hole. So depending on the ice and your wallet or both, you are going to need an ice spud or hand\gas auger. You can purchase both but if you just happen to have a friend that welds you can get him to make the spud up for you out of a 6' x 2" piece of flat steel and round bar.

Don't forget to weld a "T" on the top and grind the flat bar down to a chisel point.

If you are in good shape and have the time the hand auger is great but if you intend to fish several spots and don't want to tire yourself out making holes get a gas auger. Look for an auger with at least a 6" cut just so you can get the big ones thru the hole.

Next, you'll need an ice skimmer. I suggest the aluminum one because if you are in a hut with a stove just warm it up a little and touch it to the hole and voila ... instant skim! Also, tie a light chain or rope on it just in case it falls down the hole.

Well, your almost there. You can't catch anything without some type of jigging rod. They come in all types, sizes and styles but look for one with which you will be comfortable with. This may take a few outings to discover, so see if you have a buddy who will lend you his or hers. Another general rule of thumb, a light rod for perch and panfish using 2 to 4 lb. test, medium action for trout, walleye, whitefish, etc. and 6 to 10 lb. test.

If you are energetic an have a second hole you can also use a tip-up. They range in price from several dollars to around twenty-five bucks. Well, this should get you started. The rest you can learn from patience and experience. Good Luck and Good Fishing!

P.S. One last thing... remember to take a light lunch with you, just in case they decide not to bite or your fishing technique is off for the day. I can remember a few times when we had to have "fish lip soup", it wasn't very filling.

Well, seeing as you have made it this far. I guess an obvious question would be "When is the best time to go ice fishing ?" Everyone I know wants to get out there as soon as possible. It is probably because the fishing seems to be a little better or more likely they just want to be the first one to haul one out of the hole.

It is true that the fish are relaxed and in the best feeding spots because they haven't been hassled for several months. Trout in particular spawn in the fall and can be found in deep water at this time. You can find them on bars, shoals, rocks and fingers. Perch, pike and walleye tend to look for shallow, weedy lakes because the oxygen level tends to be a lot higher.

Once the little villages spring up and the anglers take their toll the catches tend to decrease but don't despair they are still out there. You just have to work a little harder.

So you need a few pointers because you're just not catching your limit.

Well what is it that you do in the summer time, whether you are fishing from shore or boat if your

not getting the bites ?... You move.

I do it all the time, it's not hard if you've got your own sled and make sure you've got a power auger, you'll need it. In order to be mobile you really need to be prepared. This includes a portable shelter, flotation suit, auger, sled or 4x4, fish finder and GPS. Give yourself about 10 to 20 minutes per hole. That's enough time to find your depth, scratch the bottom for debris, rocks, sand, etc., set up your fish finder and locate fish and at what depth. It also allows you to try your technique to see if they are interested. If you happen to have the hydrographic map of the lake or fished it before it helps. Try making calculated moves, such as holes, shoals and weed beds.

If you can afford it, get yourself several rods and rig them up with different presentations. Not only do you become a quick change artist but it saves tying on different lures when the weather isn't friendly.

Jigging is really an art form. Not to fast and not to slow, kind of a rhythm thing. Keep in mind it is okay to jig hard at first, you want to attract them, get them interested. Once you've done that slow down to a twitch by using only your wrist or trolling from one side of the hole to the other. Alternatively you can raise the rod tip a few inches and lower. Stir up the bottom a little.

Make sure your rod is short, stiff and with big eyelets. It's hard to fish in a hut that's only 4 x 6 with a 3' rod. You only get one chance to set the hook, so if it moves you don't want the rod to bend. Having your line get frozen because of clogged eyelets just isn't any fun.

PAY ATTENTION!

No, I'm not trying to wake you up from your daydream but feeling a hit is not the only way to get fish out of the hole. If you see the slightest movement, either side to side or up or down, set your hook! Remember, if your sending your lure down and it stops and your not where your suppose to be, you probably have one on the line.

Now, if you want to get them up the hole you're going to need to hook 'em, so keep your hooks sharp. The easiest way to test is when you push the point thru the minnow, if the point doesn't go in easily either sharpen it or replace it. Speaking of hooks, size is important, the smaller the bait the smaller the hook. Also, if you're using a large hook on small bait you restrict its movements and could possible even spook your game.

Timing the hook set is crucial when using minnow bait. It is well known that most fish attack from the side, so don't try to set the hook at the first sign of movement or tug. Allow the fish time to swallow the minnow. Okay, so you lost your patience had him and lost him. Don't be in a hurry to change your bait, put the line back down the hole. Remember, he just lost supper and if he's hungry he'll be back. Wait a couple of minutes and if you don't get a response your welcome to change your bait.

It is natural for a business to have its ups and down. Since everything is beyond your control no matter how you strive of putting all things into its right place, sometimes it still fails. Sometimes you just assume that everything is fine though it's not.

Forget about all your worries because with GPS tracking, all will turn into proper places, everything will easily be tracked. The GPS tracking system has helped reduce cost in both personal and professional life of a person and the benefits have been huge.

GPS tracking isn't for every business, but if your company employees drive company vehicles, it is best suited for you. With active GPS tracking technology, you can monitor a driver's speed and location in real time. That's how convenient it is. A unit in a car or truck records the vehicle's speed and location, sending the information back to your office instantaneously. Or consider the cheaper passive GPS tracking technology, which records a driver's speed and location on an onboard unit, which can be accessed later when the driver returns to the office.

The GPS tracking system is designed so that you can track your trucks, containers, trailers, and other vehicles easily. By the use of fleet management you will know when your assets stop, sit idling and the road they are on. With the latest GPS Tracking systems, you can monitor the activities of all your vehicles.

A GPS Tracking System works this way:

You may have heard of GPS technology as a navigational tool. 24 satellites constantly emit signals to be received by handheld computers, such as the GPS Magellan units. A microchip then processes the signals to determine the user's location. Many then display this information on a map, so you can see exactly where you are and how to get to your destination.

GPS vehicle tracking works in a similar fashion, with a couple extra steps. As in GPS navigation, a GPS tracking unit, stored in a vehicle, uses satellite signals to calculate the vehicle's location. It then calculates the vehicle's speed and stores or transmits this information to be accessed by a third party.

As of now, there are already some technical support teams that function, focusing on user-centered design and usability applications. To improve its range and provide for different markets, many GPS services have many add-ons to enhance the performance.

Since the foundation of any company is to stick on their philosophy that in order to maintain long term business relationships, it must be based on reliable service, high quality and strong industrial design and information technology support to adapt to the rapid changes in the markets and the business world.

These companies have dedicated themselves in the use and development of GPS products and applications, including Bluetooth GPS Receiver with SiRF Star 3 chipset, GPS Car Tracking System (Integrated GPS with mobile communication technology), Personal GPS Burglar - proof Tracker, GPS Data Logger, GPS Post-tracking System (off-line tracking). Many companies have invested so much to manufacture products designed to flexibly and rapidly customize their GPS to meet market demands.

These GPS vehicle tracking products are designed and built to provide precise information so that the services of the company who uses them can monitor their fleet as well as enhance the quality of their services.
